ABOUT OUR BEADS

"The details are not the details.
They make the design"

- Charles Eames -

In Order to become finished bead, each bead faces a challenging journey.  Glass rods are heated to over 1,000 degrees in order to undergo a dramatic transformation.  The glass changes from a solid to molten state and back to solid again.  In its lava like state, different colors are mixed and the bead is shaped into its final form.  By varying the type of glass used and the ratio of oxygen to propane, unique, effects are produced so that no two beads will ever be exactly alike.  The bead then undergoes a long annealing process to strengthen the bead and allow it to cool down to room temperature.  It is a difficult journey and not all survive the process.  When I take a bead and put it into the kiln, it is still glowing orange and I am not able to tell how the final bead will look or even be sure it will survive until the entire process is complete (no peeking).  Bead making has taught me the serenity that can be found in practicing patience.  Whenever you wear my jewelry, it is my sincere hope that you will take a moment to reflect on how you, like this bead, are unique, having overcome challenges in your own life and that you too, possess incredible strength, beauty and resilience.
